What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

The difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is the education, credentials and training. A psychologist has a doctoral-level degree in psychology. A psychiatrist has a degree in medicine. A psychologist uses counseling methods and Behavioural therapy and is unable to prescribe recommended medication. A psychiatrist has specific training in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and mental health prevention, along with being able to prescribe medication.
